Adam J. Bello

County Executive

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello is prioritizing public safety, public health and infrastructure while facilitating economic and workforce development to Bring Monroe Back stronger. He is making systemic changes in Monroe County, rethinking and retooling how the County does business, and creating sustainable solutions that will benefit our community for generations to come.

2024 Conference Speakers

Carol Schmeidler, CSP

State University of New York at Buffalo

Carol Schmeidler is the Manager of Safety and Industrial Hygiene Programs for the department of Environment, Health & Safety at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Her responsibilities include ergonomics, training, accident investigation, HazMat response, interfacing with regulators, laboratory inspections, and dealing with many customerrelations issues for the campus of 30,000 students and more than 7,000 faculty and staff. She is a member and officer of many safety-related organizations as well as a professional certification (Certified Safety Professional) and a Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering with a concentration in Ergonomics and Human Factors. Carol is a chapter author for the first, second, and upcoming third edition, of ASSP’s book of Construction Safety Management and Engineering and is serving as a member of the ANSI A-10 Prevention Through Design Technical Report Update.

Greg Ertel, CIH, CSP

WSP, Applied Solutions

Director of HSSE WSP, Applied Solutions - Manage the Health, Safety, Security and Environmental Program for the Construction group of WSP Earth and Environment. Assess, plan and implement proactive HSSE programs for large multi-contractor field/construction projects with a focus on environmental remediation (HAZWOPER) and site upgrades, wastewater treatment, fuel systems, etc. Develop Enterprise level HSSE Procedures and processes to provide an efficient platform to meet regulatory and client requirements, conduct training and prepare site-specific Health and Safety Plans. Past experience includes both Consulting and General Industry (Bausch & Lomb) HSSE positions.

Keynote: John L. Henshaw, MPH, CIH

Former Assistant Secretary, USDOL for OSHA

As the United States Assistant Secretary of Labor, John Henshaw emphasized a friendlier, more cooperative and less punitive approach to compliance and working safely. Through associations with established Safety and Health organizations such as The American Society of Safety Professionals, the American Industrial Hygiene Association and numerous others, he has worked throughout his career to promote and lead efforts to improve the safety and health of the American Worker.

Mick Snyder, CSP, CIH

Mick has a broad background in EHS, working in industries such as metal forging, chemical manufacturing, semiconductor, hydrogen fuel cell manufacturing, high voltage device manufacturing, among several others. He has obtained the Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional certification from the NFPA and is considered a subject matter expert in NFPA 70E.

Evan Burdick, CSP

LMC Industrial

Evan started his carer in the military, became a welder and fabricator and then attended underwater welding school and worked as a diver for a number of years, performing over 750 commercial dives. Not being happy with seasonal work, he took an entry level safety job in the gas fields in Pennsylvania. He worked his way up through the ranks learning on the way and earned his BS in Occupational Health and Safety. He is currently the HSE Director for LMC Industrial Contractors in Dansville, NY.

Richard Flynt, CSP, CIT

Dick Flynt spent the first 20 years of his career working in multiple manufacturing facilities as a production worker, an electrician, and finally as a contract automation engineer. Returning to school, he made the transition to the field of safety and never looked back. He then worked as a safety manager and/or director at 6 different manufacturing companies over 23 years. Just over a year ago, he became a senior consultant for the National Safety Council where he helps companies in multiple industries improve their safety performance. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and holds the CSP and CIT certifications. He is a frequent presenter at National and regional safety conferences all over the U.S.

Alan Rossner, PhD CIH

Dr. Rossner is Director of Environmental Science and Sustainability undergraduate program at Clarkson University and Associate Director of Clarkson’s Institute for a Sustainable Environment. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Clarkson University, Master of Science degree in Environmental Health from the University of Washington, and PhD in Occupational Health from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He spent 10 years as an industrial hygienist with Oregon OSHA, The Boeing Company, and as an industrial hygiene consultant (3 years) in the Northwest. Dr. Rossner has served as Chair of the AIHA − Risk Assessment Committee, is an AIHA Fellow, and served on the ACGIH Board of Directors for six years.

Larry Sloan, CAE, CASAE

Larry Sloan has served as CEO of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) since October 2016. Prior to this, he served as CEO for seven years at SOCMA, a trade association representing the interests of the US specialty chemical industry. Larry started his non-profit career at the Adhesive and Sealant Council, a trade association representing adhesive and sealant manufacturers, and was promoted to his first CEO role there in January 2005. He led this group for five years. He earned a BS degree in chemical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and later graduated from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management where he earned his MBA.

Michele Twilley, DrPH, CIH

Dr. Twilley is the resident Certified Industrial Hygienist and Chief Science Office with the American Industrial Hygiene Association. She has over 35 years of experience in providing emergency spill response, environmental health hazard investigations, environmental remedial investigations and feasibility studies, risk assessments, indoor environmental quality and occupational hygiene consultation. Her work has been performed on military installations in industrial facilities, housing, research laboratories, government, healthcare, and educational buildings throughout the northeast and mid-Atlantic United States. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Towson State University in Natural Science with an Environmental Science Concentration in 1988, her Master of Health Science in Environmental Health Science, Industrial Hygiene and Safety from Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health in 1998, and her Doctor of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2008.

Tom Saile, CSP

Tom Saile is a Site EHS Senior Engineer at Moog Military Aircraft, specializing as an EHS Generalist. He holds a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification, and has a BS/MS in EHS Management. Tom is dedicated to ensuring compliance, reducing risks, and fostering a culture of safety across various operational areas. As an emerging professional, he embraces technology to drive safety advancements and create a safer workplace.
